Westkapelle is a picturesque village of 2,700 inhabitants. Situated on the most western point of The Netherlands it has a rich history of Roman, Viking and medieval settlement. During WW2 it played a dominant role in the liberation of the southern part of Holland and the port of Antwerp and in October/November 1944 it was heavily bombed by the Allied Forces. The subsequent landing was considered as a small D-Day. Westkapelle has a very interesting museum about its rich history that is truly worth visiting. Most of the tourists visit Westkapelle for its lovely combination of beaches, dike and nature. Whether you like to get a suntan or have a walk on the beaches while watching the ships go by, enjoy a bike ride through the countryside or try to catch some sea fish, Westkapelle has it all for you! And besides that, the village may also pride itself in a number of very good (and affordable) restaurants. The fish or seafood caught fresh each day will be on your plate in the evening! Westkapelle has a good supermarket, an artisanal bakery and butchers’ and several other shops.
The village is only 5 kilometres away from the famous seaside resorts of Domburg and Zoutelande. These villages are also worth paying a visit, but many people do not like the overcrowded streets and beaches there as a place to stay longer. Westkapelle is therefore the ideal alternative!
The peninsula of Walcheren, on which Westkapelle is situated, is a lovely area to spend your holiday. It has forests, a lovely countryside with acres and meadows, dunes and beaches and two interesting towns, Vlissingen and Middelburg. Vlissingen has a real maritime character with a large boulevard. Ships pass by so closely that you almost think you can touch them! It also has a small ferry that brings you to the “Belgian” part of Zeeland. Middelburg is a more medieval town with many beautiful monuments, nice shops and lovely terraces. And if you are willing to travel a bit further away from our holiday apartment, beautiful and lively cities like Rotterdam, Antwerp, Gent and Bruges are within a one-hour drive. So, Westkapelle and especially Studio Noorderzon are an ideal basis to spend your holiday or short break!
